Το Σάββατο 12 Οκτωβρίου 2019 οι Terrapin θα αποτίσουν φόρο τιμής σε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα και επιδραστικότερα album όλων των εποχών, που φέτος κλείνει τα πενήντα χρόνια, με μία και μοναδική ζωντανή εμφάνιση στο Underflow Record Store & Art Gallery. Πρόκειται για το περίφημο “In the Court of the Crimson King”, το ντεμπούτο των King Crimson, που κυκλοφόρησε στις 10 Οκτωβρίου 1969. Ένα αδιαμφισβήτητα κλασικό έργο της σύγχρονης μουσικής, που από πολλούς θεωρείται ως το πρώτο «αληθινό» progressive rock album.
Οι Terrapin είναι ένα σχετικά νέο σχήμα από την Αθήνα, που αποτελείται από τρεις μουσικούς με μακρόχρονη θητεία στην ελληνική εναλλακτική σκηνή: ο Βασίλης Αθανασιάδης (φωνή, κιθάρα) είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος των No Man’s Land, ο Γιώργος Τζίβας (ντραμς, κρουστά) έχει επίσης συμμετάσχει σε αυτούς - μεταξύ άλλων - ενώ ο Κώστας Σιδηροκαστρίτης (μπάσο, φωνή) εκτός από singer – songwriter είναι μέλος και session μουσικός σε αρκετές σύγχρονες αθηναϊκές μπάντες. Ο ήχος των Terrapin εκτείνεται από το folk rock, τη ψυχεδέλεια, το progressive rock και το acid folk ως τον ελεύθερο αυτοσχεδιασμό. Το πρώτο album τους με τίτλο “Sanctuary” κυκλοφόρησε το 2017 αποσπώντας εξαιρετικές κριτικές. Οι ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις διακρίνονται για την εσωτερική ένταση, το πάθος και την προσήλωση στη στιγμή, χαρακτηριστικά που δημιουργούν κάθε φορά μια ξεχωριστή, ηλεκτρισμένη ατμόσφαιρα. Αυτό τον καιρό ολοκληρώνουν την ηχογράφηση του δεύτερου album τους, το οποίο αναμένεται να κυκλοφορήσει στις αρχές της επόμενης χρονιάς.
Στο πρώτο μέρος της βραδιάς, οι Terrapin θα ερμηνεύσουν με το δικό τους τρόπο τα πέντε κομμάτια που αποτελούν το “In the Court of the Crimson King”, ενώ στο δεύτερο μέρος θα παρουσιάσουν δικά τους τραγούδια, τόσο από το “Sanctuary”, όσο και από τo επερχόμενο δεύτερο album τους.

On Saturday, October 12 2019 Terrapin are paying tribute to one of the most important and seminal albums of all times, which turns 50 this year, with a one-off special live show at Underflow Record Store & Art Gallery. The album is none other than the celebrated “In the Court of the Crimson King”, King Crimson’s debut, released on October 10 1969. An undisputable classic, it is regarded by many as the first “real” progressive rock album.
Terrapin are a relatively new trio from Athens, Greece, whose members are all but seasoned veterans of the Greek alternative music scene: Vassilis Athanassiadis (vocals, guitar) is a founding member of psych-prog band No Man’s Land, George Tzivas (drums, percussion) was a member of the same band, among others, while Kostas Sidirokastritis (bass, vocals), besides being a singer-songwriter in his own right, serves as both a member and a session musician in numerous contemporary Athenian bands. Terrapin’s sound ranges from folk rock, psychedelia, prog and acid folk to free improvisation. Their first album “Sanctuary” was released in 2017 to rave reviews. Their live shows are characterized by inner tension and passionate attentiveness to the moment, making for a unique, electrified atmosphere. These days they are putting the finishing touches on their second album, which is expected to come out early next year.
In the first part of the evening, Terrapin will present their own interpretation of the five pieces that comprise King Crimson’s “In the Court of the Crimson King”. The second part will consist of selected original songs, both off “Sanctuary” and their upcoming (as yet untitled) second album.
