Edward Jarvis art exhibition
At the opening date Mats Gustafsson (the artist’s closer and oldest friend) will give a site specific performance.
Edward Jarvis was born in Sweden and studied at the Royal academy of fine arts in Stockholm.
In the artist’s icons (created with techniques used in old Byzantine art) poets are praised through phrases borrowed from their poems. An exceptionally free association is established when the text becomes the focus of the image.
In Edward Jarvis words:
“I painted at Christos Acheiropoietos and a Maria Hodigitria, and embraced the technical aspects – the egg yolk, gold leaf, and pigment. Boards are prepared with a chalk ground. But the “icons” I subsequently came to paint were not religious in a traditional sense. The images in this exhibition and catalogue constituted a new start for me. A reset.”
A catalogue in the form of a book accompanied by a vinyl record with music by Mats Gustafsson (conceived to be a part of the exhibition) will be availiable as a limited edition box set.
